Taser used in Saskatoon arrest

Police in Saskatoon used a taser during the arrest of a man on Saturday.

Saskatoon Police Service said in a news release that a patrol spotted a man wanted for breach of statutory release as well as being unlawfully at large around 12:40 p.m. in the 600 block of Confederation Drive.

The man was confronted by police in the 400 block of Confederation Drive but refused to comply with demands to surrender himself for arrest and tried to run away, and it was then that the taser was used.

The man was taken into custody without further incident, police said, and faces charges including possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking, and possession of property obtained by crime.

No further details were available, and the incident will be reviewed in accordance with policy.
